May is Melanoma Awareness month! To help raise awareness and in memory of my dad, Thomas Patrick Nyquist (TPN), our family is participating in the 16th Annual Block Melanoma virtual event on Sunday, May 17th. This virtual event will bring attention to and raise funds for Ann’s Hope Foundation to help fund melanoma research and education.
Did you know that each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung, and colon? And, over the past 30 years, more people have had skin cancer than all other cancers combined!
At this time there is no cure for late-stage melanoma. Ann’s Hope Foundation has awarded over $1.4 million in grants locally to researchers seeking to find treatments and a cure for the disease. This virtual event is their largest fundraiser and the largest melanoma event in the state of Wisconsin.
We are focused on raising awareness and bringing attention to the frequency of skin cancer. We welcome anyone to join our team and walk/run with us (virtually!) to honor my dad and anyone else who has lost or is fighting a battle against melanoma.
